Monique Motut-Firth

Monique Motut-Firth is an award winning multidisciplinary visual artist, writer and arts educator. A graduate from the MFA Visual Arts program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, her work has been shown nationally and internationally. She also holds a BFA from Emily Carr and a BA from the University of British Columbia where she was awarded the Margaret Lawrence Scholarship for the Arts. She has gained international recognition for her animation shorts and has exhibited in a number of solo and group shows. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts and has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts. 

She joined the Entertainment Arts program at KPU in 2022 and the Wilson school of Design in 2023. She enjoys inspiring foundation students of all levels by offering courses that focus on creative exploration and idea building, coupled with strong practice-based exercises in drawing, design and colour. Working in paper, paint and animation, Monique’s art practice explores and creates playful scrap-systems, or compositions and systems of movement based on the popular imagery surrounding us. She sees this moment as unique in art and design making as both analogue and digital practices collide. She has gained international recognition for her animation shorts and has exhibited in a number of solo and group shows. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts and has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
