Dale Davies has been a Faculty Instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Wilson School of Design for 17 years. A graduate of Emily Carr University of Art + Design’s Communication Design program and Wilson School of Design’s FIND program (formerly Interdisciplinary Design Studies), Dale brings over 20 years of professional experience in art direction, publication design, production design, and creative development, with projects spanning from record covers to wallpaper design.
Dale had the privilege of mentoring under Jim Rimmer, celebrated typeface designer and letterpress printer. Under Jim’s guidance, Dale created his version of the American Uncial typeface in metal and printed limited edition broadsheets, now held in the University of Alberta’s Bruce Peel Special Collections and SFU Library Special Collections & Rare Books.
Dale’s teaching philosophy centers on fostering critical thinking, feedback, and reflection within a student-centered, interdisciplinary learning environment. He encourages students to analyze, question, and iterate on their design ideas, promoting reflection and refinement based on classroom feedback. Dale strives to create an inclusive and adaptable learning environment where students feel valued, challenged, and equipped to succeed in their chosen fields.
A passionate musicophile and record collector, Dale actively participates in Vancouver’s live and recorded music communities. He is deeply interested in the intersections of music, design, and popular culture, and how these threads connect and influence each other.
