Betty recently joined the WSD Fashion & Technology program in Summer 2024, teaching CPS programs and the Apparel Industry course. She is consistently expanding her understanding of various textile-related skills such as crocheting, heat transfer vinyl design, hand & machine embroidery, etc. In her free time, she loves to upcycle garments into Disney costumes for her daughter and bake sweets together with her.
Betty is an alumna of Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Design in Fashion. She was a four-time Skills Canada Fashion Design medalist and recipient of the Leaders of Tomorrow Award from KPU. Betty has worked in the apparel industry in design and production, receiving specialized machine operations training from major brands such as Juki, Brother, Bernina, and Janome.
Betty also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from UBC, as well as a Master’s Degree in Education from UBC, with her thesis focusing on the benefits of Craft Therapy. For the past six years, she has dedicated her career to teaching Home Economics as a secondary school teacher. Betty is a certified FoodSafe Level 1 instructor and bilingual in Mandarin. She has presented at the 15th International Canadian Symposium by Teachers of Home Economics Specialist Association (THESA 2019) and the 2022 THESA annual conference.
