Assistant Chair, Design Formation, Langara College
Marcela holds a degree in Graphic Communication and a Masters in University Education (Honours) focusing on visual perception and the cognitive process. She was creative director and owner of a graphic design studio in Mexico City and works as freelance in Vancouver focusing on branding, visual identity and editorial design projects.
Marcela’s teaching experience spans for more than 30 years, on a wide range of topics in graphic design including branding and visual identity, editorial design, typography, marketing communications, colour theory and visual perception. She has taught in undergraduate and graduate programs in different institutions in Canada, and her native Mexico. She joined Langara Design Formation at Langara College in 2010 as an instructor, was the Chair of the program from 2013 to 2019 and since then has been the Assistant Chair. Marcela thrives on the challenge of meeting the learning needs of students from various backgrounds and levels and focusing on teaching design process by developing projects from ideation to production.
Marcela’s passion is travelling, coffee and chocolate. In her free time you might run into her while walking around city parks and beaches, or hiking easy trails of this beautiful Province.
