Melanie Bland

Administration + Support

Melanie Bland is the Manager of Research and Design Partnerships at the Wilson School of Design. She builds collaborations with external partners and creates opportunities for faculty and students to engage in design research. Since 2020, she has supported WSD students in roles such as Divisional Lab Coordinator and Project Lead for the Mindful Campus Initiative.

With an interdisciplinary background in industrial and graphic design, Melanie’s professional experience spans roles as an award-winning product designer for a Vancouver-based sports eyewear brand and as a graphic designer in the financial industry. She holds a BDes in Industrial Design (Emily Carr), an AA in Anthropology (KPU), and an Associate Certificate of Graphic Design (BCIT). She is also a graduate of KPU’s Foundations in Design program.

A naturally curious and hands-on learner, Melanie is often found exploring creative outlets such as ceramics, laser cutting, and baking for the WSD Dean’s Office team. She also enjoys staying active, and is pursuing a part-time career as an Irish Dance Teacher, drawing on her experience as a former international competitor and World Championship participant.
