A 2025 KPU Wilson School of Design alumna has received a Student Notable recognition in the Design for Social Impact Award for her capstone project, NeoNu, at the Core77 Design Awards.
Passionate about impacting South Africa’s healthcare system through design, Klara Joubert centered her capstone project around this challenge. While earning her Bachelor of Product Design at KPU Wilson School of Design, Joubert put the skills she learned in the program to use in tackling the problem.
NeoNu is a mobile app that bridges the gap between hospital discharge and home care, focusing on the development of a digital health intervention in her home country of South Africa. The app offers a scalable solution to improve health outcomes for premature infants. This project demonstrates the potential of digital health interventions to enhance healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings, emphasizing the need for continued development and implementation of such tools to support vulnerable populations.
NeoNu is the product of extensive research, iterative design, and grounded testing. It responds directly to the challenge of reducing post-discharge mortality in premature infants—and does so with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
