I am an interior design student with a strong interest in creating functional and visually appealing spaces. I enjoy combining creativity with practical design solutions, focusing on layout, materials, and color. Through both school projects and retail experience, I’ve developed strong communication and problem-solving skills. My goal is to grow as a designer and create spaces that are both stylish and comfortable.

My capstone project focuses on designing a modern residential interior that balances comfort, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. The project includes floor planning, 3D modeling, and material selection, using neutral tones and thoughtful layouts to create a cohesive space. I explored how color, texture, and furniture placement impact the overall atmosphere, aiming to design a space that feels both practical and inviting.

Ashley Johnston

Hi there! I’m Ashley Johnston and I’m 23. I started my journey at FIND to expand my knowledge and skills in design and to build my portfolio. My experience wouldn’t have been the same without my amazing classmates and teachers. I’m extremely grateful that I’ll be attending IDSN in the fall and I hope to see you at the graduation so you can see how far I’ve come.

I believe interior design is an excellent fit for me because of my experiences and my enjoyment of both the creative and analytical aspects of the field, such as building codes and drafting. My inspirations include the Victorian era, Art Nouveau, medieval fantasy, and more. No matter the inspiration, I enjoy creating functional spaces that focus on the small details, details that make people excited about how much thought was put into a space.

Ever since childhood, I have had a strong passion for the arts, designing and creative practices. I want a career in design because I do not want to stop making, stop sketching and to stop being inspired. Now that I have graduated the FIND program, I plan to take a gap year to travel, volunteer, get more work experience, and continue working on my portfolio. When I am not creating, you can find me curled up with a book, binging a T.V. show, or spending too much money on coffee.

Through the Foundations in Design program, I have experimented with sustainable materials and up-cycled components, and I have gained an understanding of sustainability, storytelling, design principles, collaboration, and problem solving. When it comes to my focus, product design, I have created bags, concept furniture, concept coffee maker, and dry food packaging and I have developed cohesive brand identities from initial thoughts. I enjoy making prototypes and packaging ideas using biodegradable materials, and I like to think of insightful solutions, while still maintaining a visually pleasing aesthetic. My dream as a designer is to make influential, everyday product designs and create representation for Canadian black women designers.

Hannah Francois

I’m a 21-year-old emerging designer based in White Rock, BC, with a growing interest in interior design. Over the past year in the Foundations in Design program, I’ve built my skills and gained experience in different areas of design. I especially enjoyed learning drawing techniques, colour theory, and working in my 3D modelling class. As I prepare to graduate, I’m excited to continue pursuing interior design.

This year, my academic work focused on developing foundational design skills with an emphasis on interior design. I created a series of interior sketches that strengthened my perspective drawing, along with a 3D colour wheel exploring colour relationships in physical form. I also designed a detailed 3D interior model, applying these skills in a spatial context. These projects reflect my growing interest in the field and my aspiration to pursue a career as an interior designer.
