Fashion student Emma Wu addresses the following question in her research project:
How can fitting feedback inform the development of the design and functionality of activewear tailored to menopausal women?
Developed for Spring/Summer 2026, Lunavi is a supportive, performance-driven activewear collection designed specifically for women in menopause.
Despite menopause spanning around 30% of a woman’s entire life with significant impacts on their physiological and psychological health, it remains a significantly overlooked consideration in the apparel industry. With studies continuously finding that physical activity can address key physical and psychological symptoms related to menopause, it emphasizes the need for and lack of activewear for this niche market. This research aims to fill that gap by exploring how intentional design can enhance comfort and performance without compromising style, empowering women to embrace an active lifestyle and support their overall well-being. Prioritizing fit and comfort, key features include technical fabrics, strategic mesh panelling for ventilation, and leakproof protection, enhancing versatility and ease of movement.

This project aims to create a positive ripple effect by supporting the physical and mental well-being of menopausal women, a demographic often overlooked in both the apparel industry and health conversations. Through a collection that addresses physical and emotional needs, it promotes joy in movement, fosters community, and celebrates this life stage. Outcomes may include improved overall health, increased physical activity, greater self-confidence, and broader awareness of menopause-related issues, encouraging more inclusive conversations about wellness. The research was validated during the grad showcase, where attendee feedback from the target demographic confirmed the project’s relevance and impact, offering real-world validation and insights to could inform future iterations.
