Wilson School of Design Dean wins Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award

May 2025

Congratulations to our Dean, Andhra Goundrey for winning a KPU Jedi Award! The KPU Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Awards celebrate members of the KPU community who demonstrate outstanding commitment, innovation, and leadership in working towards intersectional social justice, dismantling systemic barriers, and building a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion at and around KPU. Presented annually, JEDI Awards recognize the achievements and promote the efforts of KPU employees and students dedicated to ensuring the full participation of historically excluded and systemically oppressed groups in the life of the university and society more broadly.

On May 2, Dr. Asma Sayed, Vice-President, Equity and Inclusive Communities at KPU, announced the university’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Awards at KPU Richmond during KPU Day. The awards were presented to each recipient by KPU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Alan Davis.

Andhra Goundrey was awarded for her transformative leadership in promoting equity, diversity, inclusion and justice through initiatives such as leading the Wilson School of Design to gold certification from the Rick Hansen Foundation and securing funding for the Indigenous Designer in Residence program. Her tireless advocacy on the Anti-Racism Task Force, dedication to student mental health with the Mindful Campus initiative, and commitment to decolonizing the curriculum have made a profound and lasting impact on KPU.

Dr. Sayed says,
